Sportfishing - Tautog
Tautog is an ocean fish also known as the Blackfish. Care should be taken not to confuse this with the Black Sea Bass which is also sometimes called the Blackfish.
Tautog - Blackfish
The Tautog or Blackfish is very similar in appearance to the Black Seabass, which is also sometimes called a Blackfish. They are different fish, with the Tautog having a more rounded tailfin without the extended spine at the top of the tailfin, as found on the Black Seabass. The Blackfish is dark grey to a dark green color with blotchy patches. They can grow to about 36 inches and can weigh over 20 pounds. Most are caught much smaller, under 5 pounds. Blackfish feed on clams and muscles and divers can hear these fish breaking the shells of muscles.
