Sportfishing - Striped Bass

Striped Bass, or Stripers, mark the beginning of the fishing season for many fisherman as these fish migrate north and swim up rivers to spawn. The Striped Bass is an excellent eating fish available in many restaurants when available.

Striped Bass

The Striped Bass, or Striper, is easily identified by the shiny greenish or bronze back with 7 or 8 distinct horizontal lines on the sides. Most fish are 18-36 inches and up to 20 pounds or more, but they can grow to 60 inches and over 60 pounds. Striped Bass are a migratory ocean species that move north in the spring and spawn well up into the rivers. They provide excellent early spring fishing on the rivers. During the remainder of the summer they are found in the ocean or inlets before returning south for the winter.
