Swordfish

The Swordfish can grow to be the longest of the billfish. Males rarely exceed 200 pounds, but the females of the species can grow to 1500 pounds, though usually quite smaller. The federal minimum size limit is 47 inches or dressed to 29 inches. As many as 4 fish may be taken per vessel. These are a favorite food fish as well as a prized sportfish. Swordfish like very deep and cool water and often travel alone. They often use their bill as a weapon and will cut a fishline as they fight.
