Post Yachts Modern Models
Post Marine was undoubtedly affected by the economic problems of the early 1990s, like other builders. But Post stayed in business and continued production.
44 Convertible
1990-1994. The 44 Convertible is very similar to the previous 43 model that it replaced, with similar length and beam. Fuel capacity was increased by 70 gallons to extend range. Because of the problem years of the economy and the luxury tax that this model was available there are few seen. Inside this model offers two staterooms, two heads and a large galley. The one example we observed was powered by twin Detroit Diesel 6v92 diesels with 550 HP producing a reported 28-31 knots.
46 Convertible
1988-1996. Post had a 46 in production from 1978 straight thru 1996, and in Post fashion was continually making improvements to the model. Some more substantial changes were made about 1988, with some people referring to later models as 46-II series. Changes to the hull design resulted in draft increasing from 3'6" to 4'4". This appears to be the result of a larger keel rather than any increase in the relatively flat aft bottom. The newer version had larger engines with GM 6v92s at 550 HP replacing 6-71s at 485 HP. The hull was likely strengthened, which, with bigger engines, increased total displacement more than 10,000 lbs.
50 Convertible
1989-Present. The 50 Convertible is still in production as a Current model, but it was first introduced in 1989 and was a favorite model and Post Yachts' largest through 2000. The 50 Convertible introduced a number of changes. While all previous models, and even future models under 50 feet, were built on a 15'9" beam, this model was designed on a new 16'11" beam that would be used on upcoming larger models as well. Another first for the 50 Convertible was the use of cored construction in the hull sides above the waterline. Previous hulls were built solid. Inside, the 50 offered three staterooms and two heads. Available power from CAT, Detroit and MAN is 800-860 HP.
