Post Yachts Classic Models

Post had been building wooden yachts in similar designs from the 1950s to at least 1975. They were later moving to fiberglass construction than any of their competitors (that survived), introducing their first fiberglass yacht in 1975.

Post has not changed models frequently and keeps most models longer than other builders do. They also build just one type of boat - the Convertible Sportfisherman. They build fewer boats, and their motto is "Yachts of Quality, Not Quantity Since 1957". For these reasons there are fewer different models listed for Post. But they have built a good number of boats consistently and all models can be seen in use and found available for sale.

These early model Post Yachts were all built with solid hand-laid fiberglass hulls. Cored construction techniques were used in decks and deckhouse construction. As was typical of the time, access to the engine room was provided in the salon. Cabinetry and other structures were hand-built in place of teak and fine woods by craftsmen.

42 Fisher Cruiser

1975-1983. The 42 Fisher Cruiser was the first model built in fiberglass by Post. It provided success to Post Marine for eight years in a two-model product line. The deckhouse had front windows, and early models had a bench seat under the windows on the foredeck. Inside there were two staterooms, one head, a galley, plus a convertible sofa in the salon. Countertops were formica - often in bright, solid colors (green, orange etc) in early models. Access to the engine room was in the salon. Available power was twin GM diesel inboards of 410-485 HP. Speeds were 24-28 knots.

43 Flybridge Sportfisherman

1984-1989. The 43 Flybridge Sportfisherman replaced the original 42 in 1984. At 43ft-8in it was a full 20 inches longer than the 42. More important, the hull was updated with a sharper, deeper forefoot and more deadrise carried to the transom, replacing the rather flat 42 hull to provide a smoother, more capable ride. Draft is increased to 3ft-6in. Additional hull detail and spray rails were added to suppress spray for a drier ride. A solid winshield replaces the windows of the earlier model, but they were impressed with window shapes! The bench seat in front of the cabin is retained. The 43, like the 42, had no dinette. Available power was twin Detroit Diesels 450-550 HP. Speeds were 24-30 knots.

46 Flybridge Sportfisherman

1978-1987. The 46 Flybridge Sportfisherman was just the second fiberglass model produced by Post Marine. It would be the larger model in a two model product line for its entire life. Post notes it was produced continuously thru 1996, but we describe it as two separate models as it was modified in the late 1980s. This model was produced with a solid front windshield from the beginning. The 46 model enabled Post Marine to add a dedicated dinette to the design of the 42 footer. This may be the only Post model made with a booth type dinette. After this model, Post adopted dinettes that are placed along wall seating and providing fixed dining positions on only two or three sides. This avoids dedicating space to the dinette and allows more flexible use. Available power was twin Detroit Diesels of 410-485 HP producing 21-28 knots.
