NJ Boats and Boating is an online community of boaters interested in "Jersey Design Yachts", sportfishing, cruising and enjoying life on the water. We explore the great New Jersey boat builders, past and present, who continue to produce many of the world's best yachts. Most of the boats from even those early days, are still in use and in good shape - a true testament to the quality, design and construction of these boats. Some are even available for purchase!
At NJ Boats and Boating we are interested in just the New Jersey builders that invented the "Jersey Design Yachts" and continue to build them and evolve them today. These builders trace their beginnings to just after World War II with wooden boat construction, although we pick up about 1970 with the beginning of fiberglass boat construction - which these builders also led.
We follow Sportfishing which the "Jersey Design Yacht" is built for, deep-sea, offshore and coastal fishing as well. Tournaments start with the early spring Striper Tournaments, and continue with tournaments for bluefish, fluke, tuna and shark. We follow the Sportfishing Tournaments for billfish held off New Jersey each summer, with names like the Mid-Atlantic $500,000 Tournament and the Viking-Ocean Shootout, now popular over 20 years. We also explore Cruising, not only on the New Jersey coast, but to those destinations within easy reach of New Jersey - New York and New England to the North, and the Delmarva Pennisula of Delaware, Maryland and Virgina to the South. These same builders produced dedicated cruising models and motoryachts as well as today's comfortable Convertibles that make short work of nearby destinations.
